Tell us about yourself?
I believe in serving mankind and doing so with the utmost passion and excellence. This is a principle that I apply in both my personal and professional life. As a mother, I am devoted to raising my son in a way that enables him to contribute positively to society and as an entrepreneur, I dedicate myself to consistently delivering high – value services to my clients.
Why did you decide to start a business?
After having spent over a decade in corporate South Africa, working with both local and multinational organisations as an Executive Assistant to their Board members, I recognised a gap in small and medium businesses for efficient administrative support. I started TAELO as a response to a need by entrepreneurs to have reliable, efficient and professional administrative processes and services that will enable their business to raise the standard of their daily operations and allow them to focus on income-generating activities.
How do you manage your business and family?
I recognise the importance of the contribution I make, both as a parent and a business owner and how my decisions affect my family and my team. What has worked well for me is to integrate the two worlds. My family knows and understands what I do and often help me in business-related tasks that I can delegate, in the same way, my team is aware that I am a single parent who values time with my child. I have also managed to build a great support system of parents, friends, mentors and associates over the years because success is not a journey you walk alone.
How does your business affect your family dynamic?
I find that being an entrepreneur has offered me flexibility which allows me to be with my family when they need me most. I’m able to work my schedule around important dates such as birthdays, educational activities and travelling. I also take full advantage of technology so my team and my clients can reach me anytime and I can work from anywhere.
What does an average day look like for you?
I am a morning person so I am usually up at 4:00 am for prayer, mediation and reading. I start working at 06:00 am in my home office. My son gets up at 07:30 am, we both start getting ready for our day and enjoy breakfast together. He is home schooled, he starts working with me, online or with a tutor from 09:00 am. I take my meetings online or at our offices around midday, every day is different. I try to cook and work out about three times a week and we always end our day with reading and prayer.
Do you have any advice for women who want to start a business?
Start where you are with what you have. Diligence is rewarded. Never, ever give up.
